Social Security Disability Law: Childhood SSI Evaluation

Social Security Disability Law: Childhood SSI Evaluation

What are the steps of the evaluation process?

Children with a disability can receive Supplemental Security Income benefits if certain poverty guidelines are met. However, the sequential evaluation for children’s cases is different than for that of adults. The analysis of a child’s claim of disability requires three sequential steps, including meeting a listed impairment. This white paper reviews the steps of the process and what can be done if an impairment is not listed.
