Department of Labor Issues New Federal Minimum Wage PosterJuly 18, 2007 — 2,910 views
The U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, has issued the new federal minimum wage poster reflecting the recently passed increase in the federal minimum wage.
This is the first federal minimum wage change in over 10 years. This significant change means that employers must post the new poster, regardless of the wage or salary paid to employees.
Lorman has partnered with Poster Compliance Center to make it a lot easier - and less expensive - to maintain your company's labor law poster compliance.
According to the Wage and Hour Division web site, “every employer of employees subject to the Fair Labor Standard Act’s minimum wage provisions must post, and keep posted, a notice explaining the act in a conspicuous place in all of their establishments so as to permit employees to readily read it.”
Under the new legislation, the minimum wage will increase from $5.15 to $7.25 in three steps over the next two years. The first increase to $5.85 goes into effect July 24, 2007. The next increase to $6.55 will occur one year later (July 24, 2008) with the final increase to $7.25 two years later (July 24, 2009).
