Failure to do so can result in unfortunate circumstances, decreased efficiency and personal injury in the worst-case scenario. The first thing to check for is proper safety and fire equipment. This potentially life-saving gear must be unrestricted and in clear view of every employee. Emergency exits should also be unobstructed and distinctly marked. In the construction or manufacturing industries, supervisors must ensure that their employees are properly trained in the use of complex machinery. Tools and other devices must be stored properly and placed away from crowded areas.

In the event of an emergency, employees must be trained in proper evacuation procedures. Periodic fire drills and other simulations will help workers keep a cool head in unexpected situations, and should be another main point of a safety audit.
